What are Blot
assessments?
Are you
having behavioural problems with your child? Within the
family home environment and/or at your child’s school?
Unable to
understand the reasons why or find solutions to the
behaviour being displayed? The blot assessment system
has been developed for these very reasons, to help you
as parents find solutions and track your child’s home
routine and for teachers to monitor behaviour displayed
within the education system this package has been
developed for easy internet use that is fully
confidential and easy to use fitting in with our busy
lifestyles.
The
Blot assessment system has taken three years to develop.
After 7 years of intervention work with children who
display challenging behaviour, their families, the
education system, as a foster carer and out in the local
community who are affected by the behaviour displayed.
I have come to realize that the best people to help
theses young people are the parents themselves giving
them the strategies and support in specific areas rather
than trying to manage the whole child. This is not a
solution to your problems this assessment tool will find
out what areas or items that may be causing your child’s
behaviour.
Sometimes as parents we can miss the obvious in our busy
life’s, under-estimating the importance of a good diet,
good nights sleep and what we let our children watch or
play and how this can and does affect our child’s
behaviour. Research I have conducted in my job roles
shows that the biggest positive change to a child’s
behaviour has been accomplished by parents and positive
change within the home environment.
There
are two types of assessment available; BLOT 1,
assessment is designed for parents to use
independently. BLOT 2, assessment is designed to be
used in conjunction with the child’s school and parents
working in partnership.
Through
my experience over many years, the most positive and
stabilized behaviour with these young people, has been
achieved and maintain through the empowerment of
parents, and their willingness to change the home
environment and routine.
“Working on
our own we can make small changes for a short period of
time, working together with the help of parents we could
make big changes that could last a lifetime”.
